Link: one forty plus: Twitter Isn't "Over", I'm Over It.
And call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s the healthiest thing in the world to read scads of mentions/@replies and effectively open the floodgate of other people’s approval/disapproval. Finding out in 140 characters what a stranger has to say about you is like a mathematical equation without an established value of ‘x’.
Honestly, I’ve never really groked twitter. I’ve used it and have about 2k tweets on it but still never really felt the vibe. Alot of my tweets are just my replying to a few people OR my rss feeds auto tweeting.
However, I’m not sure I want to use Tumblr as my primary social network either. I put shit on here that I don’t like shoving in people’s face. Tumblr for me is like my own personal reddit - anytime I see something really interesting or funny or offensive that catches my eye it goes here.
The feed from here I don’t shove toward anyone. If my family or friends want to come see it - well, they are welcome to do so. I view my online publishing activity as a two way conversation and Tumblr represents all the comments I make under my breath or as a joke to myself later when I don’t want to offend anyone.
I like to think I’m being considerate but others may think I’m being cowardly. I dunno nor do I care. I just don’t want to deal with any regular drama about this stuff but I also don’t want to forget where and when I’ve seen some of the shit I’ve posted here.
