Link: Secret Coldstone Smoothie
I have a voracious appetite at times and most days, by around 2pm, I feel like I haven’t eaten at all even though I just had lunch at 12pm. Thus I’m often on the prowl for a mid-afternoon snack.
Sadly, my doctor isn’t too happy with my snacking choices. My triglycerides are high. He wanted me to cut back on deep fried food but I don’t eat much deep fried stuff. I only weigh 170lbs so he lamented he couldn’t tell me to lose 160 of them. Thus he said I have to cut back on the sweets in my diet.
So far that hasn’t been particularly easy. I work downtown in a small town and there aren’t any places near me that have somewhat healthy and tasty snack options. To make matters worse I’ve been a complete slacker at stocking up on snacky type things at the grocery store so I’ve been stuck either being hungry or ignoring my doctor and sneaking downstairs to buy some chocolate chip cookies. That is, until today.
Today I walked over to the Coldstone Creamery and devised a new smoothie that is both very tasty and, generally, not too bad for me. It is a Raspberry Banana Tart and Tangy Smoothie. Basically, I took their standard Raspberry Banana smoothie but asked them to make it with the Tart and Tangy Berry Yogurt. It’s really good.
I ordered a “Like-It” size (medium). I have pseudo computed the nutritional details based on a like-it sized bowl of the yogurt combined with a like-it sized raspberry banana smoothie.
- Serving Size: 642g (just the smoothie size)
- Calories: 700 (240 + 460)
- Fat: 5g (0 + 5)
- Sat Fat: 3.5g (0 + 3.5)
- Sugar: 105g (44 + 61)
The only one in that list that really bothers me is the sugar count. 105g seems insanely high. Even if I only assume I’m getting half the full amount of yogurt I’m still looking at 83g of sugar.
However, since triglycerides are basically just fat in your blood I figure the lower overall fat content in this drink is a pretty good option. Compare that to three of the cookies from downstairs at 21g of total fat and I figure I’m doing much better with the smoothie.
Plus, the smoothie tastes great. The yogurt really helps bring out the tang of the raspberries.
